Description
2014 Panerai PAM590 8 day manual. The new Panerai Luminor Marina 8 Days Acciaio isn’t a drastic departure from previous Panerai models. But as with most watches, it’s the tiny details that appeal to the interests of dedicated collectors. In this case, a redesign of the standard Luminor Marina dial is paired with a historical inscription on the solid case back of Italian Navy human torpedoes. At 44mm, the case is substantial, though the merits of an in-house movement and instantly-recognizable unique design bring added value to this exclusive North America release. Inside, the in-house Calibre P.5000 has a substantial 8-day power reserve (192 hours). It’s in no doubt inspired by Angelus-made 8-day watches of the past, even down to the size (35.7mm/15.75 lignes compared to the Angelus at 16 lignes).
This model, PAM 590 features two design details that set it apart from the existing range and also make it more desirable to collectors, specifically when coupled with North American market exclusivity. The Arabic numeral “3” is replaced with an inscription reading “8 GIORNI BREVETTATO” or “8 DAYS PATENTED”. (The small seconds are still at 9 o’clock, as with all other Luminor Marina models).
